The Indian woman and the social evils associated

 


In this blog , i would like to address the social evils that persists in modern Indian society in women's case .

Starting right from the birth , a term "son meta preference" exits which itself shows son is preferred more as compared to daughter in this senseless society . Family continues to reproduce until a son is born showing how daughter is not wanted and welcomed in this society . Technology has made it more easier as you can detect early in the womb if it is a female child or male child so can it can be infanticide if it's a female child. Although laws exits as this is a criminal offences but things continue on the other side of veil showing a society which prefers a male child over a female child .

When a female child is born , she is gradually made a women ( it's a social construct) , she is often provided with soft toys and given nailpolish , makeup materials, which enhances her beauty , outside visits will be done in controlled manner ( Article 19 violated ) , she will be told whom with to interact and to whom don't and in this way , from her wearing to  taking her outside, everything will be controlled. If out of curiosity she would attempt something  which is forbidden by this society rules , she would be punished or beaten in some cases or in some cases she can be killed popularly knows as "honour killing".

Then the age comes when she has to marry , a boy will be chosen to whom she never met to whom she never loved , one she never saw  , her fate will be tied to such a person who doesn't love her either , and they both will be expected to run this marriage to whole life .

The girl's father will expect the boy to love his daughter and take care of her . The girl's father arranged the marriage and expect love now.

If the girl's father really wanted a loving husband for his girl then he should have permitted her to marry the one she loves.

Anyways in this way a girl freedom is encroached and she is tied to any unknown guy .

Later , we don't know what that guy will want from that girl , because we don't know that guy , we don't know his qualities , it's tough to judge someone in some days . Now , the same guy grown in patriarchal mindset will give her kitchen in which she can work freely for lifetime and provide food to his family. She will also be expected to reproduce a male child and sometimes will be blamed if the boy is not born. These illiterate would never learned about that girls chromosomes are XX , it's you who is at blame.

In this relationship , sometimes she will be harassed for not doing things rightly , sometimes she will be beaten for no reason , sometimes she can even be killed. 

And her life will be always continuing like this......

The discrimination is observed throughout the girl's life:

In birth 

In studies

In choosing their life partner 

Dowry

In work fields

In travelling 

Within household itself 

This sums up to big social evil which is still rooted deeply in our so called rich cultured and beautiful society.

Gandhian Philosophy - Satyagraha and Non-violence

Starting with the non-violence , it is tough to understand for a normal person that how come freedom can be achieved through non-violence . Let me be clear Freedom could be achieved through other means as well like a complete violent revolution , but had we achieved it through other means it would not have been sustainable. Freedom through non-violence is sustainable and prolonged . Satyagraha , Non-cooperation and civil disobedience was major movements which held non-violence as the main weapon.  First , non-cooperation , let's understand it through a thought example , imagine you are in you classroom you have many friends who interact with you daily . Everything is going fine and one day they all start to ignore you , no one is ready to sit with you and teacher leaves the classroom when you enters , imagine the whole school is behaving like this .
